Barbara McClintock

Award winning author and illustrator Barbara McClintock is the illustrator of Jim Aylesworth’s THE GINGERBREAD MAN, which has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and inspired gingerbread cookie eating around the globe. She wrote and illustrated the ADELE & SIMON series, VROOM! and THE THREE
LITTLE KITTENS. She illustrated NOTHING STOPPED SOPHIE; THE STORY OF UNSHAKABLE MATHEMATICIAN SOPHIE GERMAIN, TOMFOOLERY! RANDOLPH CALDECOTT AND THE
RAMBUNCTIOUS COMING-OF-AGE OF CHILDREN’S BOOKS, and WHERE ARE YOU, BRONTË?, the last complete manuscript written by Tomie dePaola. She recently created images for a new Magic The Gathering series.

Barbara is a big advocate of drawing with your eyes closed, creating drawings to illustrate stories made up by the person sitting next to you in a classroom, inventing stories based on silly prompts, and in general being playful and delighting in the joy of creating stories and drawings to go with them. Her presentations are very interactive, and Barbara enjoys speaking to large and small groups. Barbara is happy to adapt her
presentations and create workshop activities that focus on STEM/math, non-fiction and fiction or fantasy. She can also talk and create workshop prompts about the fun, research and challenges of writing and illustrating biographies about real people. Her programs are appropriate for pre-k through 5th grade.

Barbara lives in northeastern Connecticut with her husband the illustrator David Johnson, and their two nonsensical but well meaning cats Pia and Nick.
