Marika McCoola is an illustrator, educator, and the New York Times bestselling author of Baba Yaga’s Assistant. In addition to writing and illustrating, Marika has worked in publishing and higher education and owned a bookstore. She currently resides in Somerville, MA, where she spends her days writing copy for a tech company and her nights and weekends cooking adventurously, climbing, hiking, skiing, and bicycling everywhere.
She served as the Thurber House 2019 Middle Grade Author in Residence, and her book Baba Yaga’s Assistant debuted on the New York Times Graphics Bestseller List and remained on the list for 11 weeks. Baba Yaga’s Assistant also won the 2015 New England Book Award, was nominated for the Eisner Award for Best Publication for Kids, and received a Kirkus starred review stating the books was “A magnificently magical must-read for all fairy-tale fans.”
