Susan Hood is the award-winning author of more than 200 books for ages 1-14, including picture books, poetry, beginning readers, middle grade, and works of nonfiction. As a former editor with Sesame Street, Nick Jr. and Scholastic, Susan LOVES speaking to kids ages Pre-K to Grade 8.
ADA’S VIOLIN was awarded the 2017 E.B. White Honor Award, the 2017 Christopher Medal, the 2017 Américas Award, and the 2017 Bank Street Flora Steiglitz Straus Award given to a “distinguished work of nonfiction that serves as an inspiration for young people.”
LIFEBOAT 12 is the winner of the Connecticut Book Award, the Arkansas Charlie May Simon Award, the Oklahoma Children’s Sequoyah Award, the Indiana Young Hoosier Award, and a state award runner-up in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, and Mississippi. It is also nominated for state awards in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Tennessee, and Vermont.
Susan’s new titles include THE LAST STRAW: Kids vs. Plastics (HarperCollins) which has been endorsed by Dr. Jane Goodall, and WE ARE ONE: How the World Adds Up (Candlewick).
Look for two upcoming books: BROTHERS IN ARMS: A True World War II Story About Wojtek the Bear and the Soldiers Who Loved Him, a new nonfiction picture book, hits bookstore shelves October 2022. And Susan’s next middle grade book, HARBORING HOPE, debuts in March 2023.
